I have always had to balance a hectic schedule since high school; I thought that I was ready for college. I wasn’t completely wrong, but I was in for a change. Not only were my classes much more demanding, practices were more time-consuming than ever. Getting up at 5 a.m. every morning for practice meant that I had little energy at the end of the day. I was usually in bed before everyone else on my floor because I just couldn’t keep my eyes open. I also had to find time to fit it my work.

Group projects were the worst. I understand that they are an important part of classes and that working with people now helps in the future, but it felt like some classes were completely full of projects. Unfortunately, I got stuck with slackers in several groups and had to do most of the work myself. I would talk to my professors about it. They were understanding, but still expected the work to get done.

Scheduling meetings and having free time was really difficult at first, but I have gotten the hang of it now. It takes a lot of work and time to be a successful college athlete on the field and in the classroom as well, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
